Assessors approve exemption, deny abatements in May session

Board of Assessors · Meeting of May 5, 2026

SANDWICH — Board of Assessors approves exemption, denies abatements in FY26 review. Chair Larry Harrington's board, including Vice-Chair Nick Fernandes and Member Robert James, voted unanimously during an executive session to approve one real estate exemption (Bill #6853) and deny a group of abatement applications (Bills #6438-7436). Director of Assessing Ben Styche reported that a new administrative assistant began work and that the recently approved PILOT agreement extension for Canal Units I and II will hold FY27 payments flat, with 8 percent annual depreciation in the two years following.

The board announced that Member Robert James will be departing and new member Brian Miller will be introduced at a May 19 meeting.
