Board of Appeals continues Freeman Avenue floodplain expansion hearing

Board of Appeals · Meeting of March 24, 2026

SANDWICH — The Sandwich Board of Appeals continued a special permit hearing for a Freeman Avenue floodplain expansion. Vice Chair Chase Terrio presided with four members present; Chair Christopher Neeven was absent. Applicant Michael Avant is seeking approval to add a second story to the non-conforming structure, which will exceed 301 square feet of construction in a floodplain.

Building Commissioner Ian Reid noted that the application lacked required engineer-stamped elevations, flood vents, and site plans. Avant said revised structural plans with flood vents had been submitted and remaining documents would be ready in one week. The board unanimously continued the public hearing to April 28, 2026.
