Select Board approves wastewater legislation, names historic district member

SANDWICH — Select Board moves forward on state wastewater legislation and appoints historic committee member. The board voted unanimously to recertify a 2022 town meeting vote authorizing a home rule petition for wastewater treatment services at Joint Base Cape Cod, allowing House Bill 1073 to advance before the state legislature. Brendan Brides was appointed unanimously as the Historic District Committee's architect/builder representative for 2026.
Town Manager George Dunham presented the FY'27 budget recommending 2.92 percent operating increase and $2.25 million in capital spending, though the town faces major challenges including a 75 percent increase in out-of-district tuition assessments and escalating health insurance costs that Dunham noted are unsustainable if current trends continue.
