SHC Reviews Shared Use Path to Protect Historic Village

Historical Commission · Meeting of February 4, 2026

Sandwich Historical Commission reviews proposed route for Cape Cod regional shared-use path project. The commission heard presentations from Sean Polay, Sam Jensen, and Steve Rhoads on the Vision 88 initiative, an 88-mile continuous shared-use path network extending from Woods Hole to Provincetown. The proposed Route 130 to Canal section through Sandwich would be 10 to 12 feet wide and paved, deliberately routing around the historic village core to minimize impacts on historic properties including the Tobey House at 44 Water Street.

The project remains in pre-25% design phase, with construction projected to begin no earlier than 2030.
