SANDWICH — The Bikeways and Pedestrian Committee discussed deployment of a $500,000 MassTrails grant for Service Road-Canal trail pre-design work. Town Engineer Sam Jensen reported on the scope for Fiscal Year 2027, including pedestrian bridge selection and subsurface utility investigations, with presentations planned for the Housing Authority and Commission on Disability. The award is part of a three-year MassTrails total approaching one million dollars.
The committee also reviewed other grant projects: design is ready for bidding on Quaker Meetinghouse and Cotuit Road improvements pending commercial property easements, while state consultant delays on Cotuit Road crossings may require the town to assume local responsibility.
