Sandwich School Committee Unanimously Awards $6.2 Million Bus Contract to Lucini Bus Lines

SANDWICH — March 12, 2025 — Sandwich School Committee awards $6.2 million bus contract and reviews student benchmark data. The committee voted 7-0 Wednesday to award a three-year transportation contract worth $6,192,160 to Lucini Bus Lines, the district's incumbent provider, beating out two other bidders — Mercedes Cab/Cape Destinations and Five Star Transportation — after a formal bid process managed by consultant Rich Labrie of Alliance Education Associates at a cost of approximately $9,000. Superintendent Dr. Joe Marischczyk also presented winter iReady diagnostic data showing reading and math growth at the elementary level but a persistent yellow-and-red weighting in seventh- and eighth-grade math; one cohort improved from 39 percent on grade level in the fall to 62 percent in January. Technology Director Mr. Harper reported that the district's PowerSchool server was breached globally in late December but that Sandwich's exposure was limited because Social Security numbers are not stored in the system. The committee separately accepted a $55,000 grant from the 1-8 Foundation for a Biomedical Science Career Pathway program launching next school year.
